The Joys of Having a Pet Cat

Author admin    Category Pet Cat     Tags

They say that there are dog people and there are cat people. I am definitely a cat person. I have been raised along side cats since I was born. That is not to say that I have never had dogs as pets. I certainly have. But I am a cat person. I have enough experience with dogs to be able to speak of the differences between them.

Whether they are male or female dogs are a lot more like boys and cats are a lot more like girls. There is something to the saying ‘men are dogs’. Like men dogs are not very subtle, they will eat almost anything, and indulge in self-gratification without thought. Like women cats are subtle, reserved, plotting and even sneaky. A dog will leap before it looks. A cat will look and then decide if it wants to leap or not. Also a cat is suspicious. If you want a dog to do something it will because it wants to make you happy. If you want a cat to do something it is as if it thinks, ‘wait a second, what are your motives, what’s in it for me and will I embarrass myself?’

When you raise a boy or a dog you expect to deal with mud, scrapes, bruises, and other obvious and predictable things. Cats are far less predictable. But affection from a cat is far more rewarding because if it gives you affection it is because they really feel you deserve it and not because they want any sort of affection at any time from anybody like a dog.

Cats are actually a lot easier to raise than dogs. Just like with a toddler dogs can eat things they should not eat, break things that they can break, run away and get lost, run out into traffic, have accidents in the house, hurt themselves easily and so on. A cat almost never eats anything that is bad for them, almost never break things and when let outside they are very careful to not get lost or run over.

Like children dogs need supervision and can not be left alone for long. You can leave a cat at home for days as long as you leave enough food and water. In short cats are independent, mature, calm, quite and easier to raise than dogs. They are a better choice for calm peaceful owners.
