If you want a cat to do something it is as if it thinks, ‘wait a second, what are your motives, what’s in it for me and will I embarrass myself?’
When you raise a boy or a dog you expect to deal with mud, scrapes, bruises, and other obvious and predictable things. Cats are far less predictable. But affection from a cat is far more rewarding because if it gives you affection it is because they really feel you deserve it and not because they want any sort of affection at any time from anybody like a dog.
Cats are actually a lot easier to raise than dogs. Just like with a toddler dogs can eat things they should not eat, break things that they can break, run away and get lost, run out into traffic, have accidents in the house, hurt themselves easily and so on.
